Muhammad Munir of Rawalpindi Golf Club overpowered defending champion Matloob Ahmed to be the winner with a brilliant performance in the final round of 39th Punjab Open Golf Championship that concluded at PAF Skyview Golf Course here on Sunday.

Though at the start of the final round, Matloob was considered the likely winner, outstanding display of golf skills accompanied by mental toughness enabled Munir to completely swing the flow of game in his favour. Throughout the final 18 holes, Munir appeared as the dominant one and in full command.

Though Matloob tried hard, there was no way he could stop Munir, who left behind such players as Shabbir,Talib, Waheed Baloch, Mohammad Shahzad and Ahmed Baig.

Shahzad of Garrison Golf Club, relatively new to the national golf circuit, played remarkably well to achieve the runner-up slot with scores of 71, 71, and a sparkling 66 in the final round, which meant a championship aggregate of 208, eight under par.

Matloob had to be content with the third position, his three round scores being 68, 70 and 71 — a total of 209, seven under par.

In the amateurs section, Salman Jehangir of Lahore Gymkhana won the first gross with scores of 70, 75 and 77 and an aggregate of 222. Qasim Ali Khan, also of Gymkhana came second with a total score for three days of 224. Umar Khokhar of Bahria Rawalpindi was third in this category with an aggregate score of 230.

Top position in the ladies competition was won by Parkha Ijaz (Defence Raya) with Aaniya Syed (PAF Skyview) the runner-up. Suneyah Osama (PAF Skyview) came third.

Parkha dominated the ladies section with a stunning display of classy golf. She recorded gross 78 on the first day and gross 76 in the second round.

Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Champ (- 8):

The Reno–Tahoe Open, presently known for sponsorship reasons because the Barracuda Championship, is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in California. The purse was $3.5 million, with a winner’s share of $630,000. Collin Morikawa, who was the winner of 2019 Barracuda Championship was not playing Barracuda Championship this year because he was playing WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

A win is a win on the PGA Tour, and Richy Werenski was not any less fulfilled about taking the title on the final round at the Barracuda Championship than he would if the tournament wasn’t played similar week as a

World Golf Championship.

He took the title within the opposite field event at Old Greenwood in Truckee, California, with an eagle on the 16th hole and birdie on the 18th. Because of the modified Stableford scoring format, it had been enough to let him sneak past 54-hole leader Troy Merritt and win his first career PGA Tour title.

The Barracuda Championship is that the PGA TOUR’s only tournament to use the Modified Stableford scoring system. It encourages aggressive play by awarding positive points for birdie or better (8 for an albatross, 5 for eagle, and 2 for birdie 0 for par) and subtracted points for bogey (minus-1) or worse (minus-3) with Werenski ending the week on 39 points.

“I desire I have been playing well for the last couple months. But to get a success“, that is tremendous, Werenski said. “I have got a few seconds and everything, so this just helps my confidence. Presently I know I’m adequate.

Werenski reached the turn level-par for the day after bouncing back from bogeys at the first and sixth to birdie both par-three on the front nine.

Werenski birdied the 12th and 14th then holed out from the center of the fairway for eagle at the par-four 16th, before rolling during a 15-foot birdie at the last to line the clubhouse target.

Merritt had led overnight and extended his advantage by opening with consecutive birdies on the last day, before cancelling out a bogey at the 6th with a birdie at the eighth.

The world No 153 had a 30-foot chance at the last start to grab the victory after parring his way through the back nine, only to go away his putt short to end runner-up for the second year running.

Matthias Schwab made 13 points on final day to complete in tied-third alongside Fabian Gomez, with Scott Stallings during a share of fifth and 4 point back with Robert Streb.

Ten birdies on final day saw Aaron post the best round of the day and bounce into eighth spot, while Ireland’s Seamus Power completed a further point back in tied-ninth with Alex Noren and Emiliano Grillo.

What an outstanding weekend has been finished with the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational held at Memphis, Tennessee, TPC Southwind. The name of many great players reminded at the top for the first three days/round but Justin Thomas played such a great game on the last day and wins the trophy of WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational as well as a bank over $1.8 million.

Fire Ants? Fire Ants.

Bryson DeChambeau opened with a 67, yet it’s his drop on the seventh hole that we’ll recall. His drive stopped against certain sticks left of the fairway, and he seemed to believe that he was entitled to relief because there have been fire ants near his ball. No seriously. Fire ants. Also, they were around five feet from his stance!

Fortunately, PGA Tour rules official Ken Tackett (whom you’ll remember because the second rules official from the Fence Incident at Muirfield Village) was having none of it. DeChambeau played the ball because it lay and aroused with a double-bogey six. Let us take you to the recap of the whole round.

Round 1 Thursday 30 July 2020

Brooks Koepka -8

A very familiar name at the highest of the leaderboard after the first round of the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Defending champ Brooks Koepka posted an 8-under 62 within the first round.

Koepka seeking after an extremely solid completion here in Memphis. He has struggled for the current year on the PGA tour with just one top 10 finish this year. However, he enjoys TPC Southwind and knows about the course.

Rickie Fowler -6

Fabulous round from Fowler, who has not had a lot of them so far in 2020. The swing looked incredible in the first round. Fowler posted a 6-under 64 within the first round.

Brendon Todd -6

Brendon Todd hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation during his 1st round at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational and had a decent round of putting, without any misses on putts within 10 feet. Todd completed his day tied for second at 6 under with Rickie Fowler.

Round 2 Friday 31 July 2020

Brendon Todd -11

After the second round, Brendon Todd leads going into moving day. The 35-year-old has been on the road since 2012 with just three wins, yet two of them he earned this season.

After shooting a 6-under 64 on round 2, Todd kept the great times rolling, registering a 5-under 65. He’s currently leading the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational by two strokes over Rickie Fowler heading into the weekend.

Rickie Fowler -9

Rickie Fowler chipped certain birdie on the 18th hole at TPC Southwind and was two strokes out of the lead at the halfway point of the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Fowler shot a 3-under 67. It follows a 6-under 64. Both follow some struggles. No successes since the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February of 2019. No finish above tied for 12th since the Tour’s return – with three missed cuts.

Byeong Hun -7

In the second round, South Korean Byeong Hun An makes birdie on the par-4 10th hole. He hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation and had a decent round of putting, without any misses on putts within 10 feet. Byeong Hun completed his day tied for third at 7 under with Brooks Koepka and Chez Reavie.

Brooks Koepka -7

Koepka shot an 8-under 62 during the first round, tying his career-low score. He was nine strokes worse during the second round.

He shot 2-under during his front nine. He shot 3-over on his back, double-bogeying the 2nd and bogeying the 5th and 7th, for a 1-over 71. Koepka wasn’t concerned. “I have 36 holes to go, man,” he said. “I ain’t stressed.”

Chez Reavie -7

Chez Reavie hit 12 of 14 fairways and 9 of 18 greens in regulation and completed the day Bogey-free 3-under. Reavie finished his day tied for 3rd at 7 under in the second round.

Round 3 Saturday 01 August 2020

The third round of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was a wild, up-and-down Moving Day that resulted during a neatly separated leaderboard. Here’s how the top of the leaderboard stands after Day 3.

Brendon Todd -12

Brendon Todd signed for a 1-under 69 on Saturday to stay on top at WGC-FedEx St. Jude but saw his lead shrink to at least one shot with 18 holes remaining.

Todd made five birdies in Round 3, however, four bogeys kept him from building a bigger cushion in pursuit of his third victory this season. He won the Mayakoba Classic and Bermuda Championship in the fall of 2019.

Todd just hit half of his fairways at TPC Southwind during the third round, regardless of one among the foremost accurate drivers of the ball on Tour. He also ranks 75th within the driving distance out of a field of 78

Byeong Hun -11

Byeong Hun An leads the chase of Todd after posting 66 on Saturday. He poured in four straight birdies late within the round to make his climb the leaderboard. He hasn’t won on either the PGA Tour or European Tour since 2015 when he took the distinguished BMW PGA Championship.

Rickie Fowler -10

Rickie Fowler, who was alone in second after Round 2, did not structure any ground on moving day. He matched Todd’s performance with a three-birdie, two-bogey 69. Rickie Fowler completed his day tied for 3rd at 10 under in the third round.

Final Round Sunday 02 August 2020

Justin Thomas

He started the final round in fifth place. Never before has he won after starting the ultimate round so low on the leaderboard. He also trailed by four, matching the most important final-round deficit he’s overcome on the PGA TOUR.

The victory kept him on an elite pace. Since 1960, only Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have reached 13 wins at a younger age. Thomas is 27 years old. He shot 13-under 267 (66-70-66-65) for four rounds at TPC Southwind.

Thomas and Koepka, the past two winners of this event, had separated themselves from the sector at that time, but Thomas seemed to have the tournament in hand when Koepka’s own pitch to the 16th rolled over the green. The bogey gave Thomas a two-shot lead.

Tom Lewis

Tom Lewis hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation and completing at 10 under for the tournament. He completed his day tied for 2nd at 10 under with Daniel Berger, Brooks Koepka, and Phil Mickelson, he got $695,000.
